Effects of Aloe Vera Arborescens on Genital Herpes
Aloe Vera Arborescens can be a natural ally in relieving the symptoms of genital herpes, although it does not replace antiviral medical treatment — especially during active outbreaks.
It does not eliminate the HSV-2 virus (Herpes Simplex Virus type 2), but it helps soothe, heal, and protect the skin during flare-ups — and may also help reduce recurrence indirectly by strengthening both the skin and the immune system.
Stimulates the regeneration of skin damaged by lesions (ulcers or blisters).
Speeds up re-epithelialization, shortening the recovery time of the outbreak.
Compounds like aloin, emodin, and acemannan have anti-inflammatory properties that:
Relieve burning and itching
Reduce local swelling and redness
Although not as strong as prescription antivirals like acyclovir, some studies show that Aloe may have mild antiviral activity against herpes simplex in cell cultures — helping inhibit early viral replication.
It is especially useful in the first 24 hours of a flare-up, when symptoms are still mild.
Creates a light protective barrier that hydrates and prevents dryness in the affected area.
Pure Aloe Arborescens Gel (for active outbreaks or prevention):
Wash the area gently with warm water and neutral soap
Apply a thin layer of fresh (clear) Aloe gel from the leaf
Let it absorb and dry naturally. Repeat 2–3 times a day
Refrigerate the gel beforehand for a soothing, cooling effect
Situation | Recommendation |
---|---|
Active lesions | Use Aloe only as a complementary treatment, never as the sole therapy |
Use with antivirals | Compatible. Aloe can be applied alongside, with time intervals between uses |
Open or bleeding sores | Avoid applying directly without medical guidance |
Internal use (vaginal insertion) | Not recommended without medical supervision |
While that study used the barbadensis variety, Aloe Arborescens has an even higher antioxidant content — indicating similar or potentially greater effectiveness, although it is less studied in clinical trials.
